Recording with Windows Sound Recorder

SoundRecorder is the standard audio recorder that comes with Windows. Although it is a fully functional voice recorder, it is also a very basic recorder which has never been updated by Microsoft despite the many versions of Windows out there. The biggest pitfall for this program is the fact that it requires one to press the Record button every 60 seconds in order for continuous recording to occur. This is a nuisance to say the least and despite its simplicity and ease of use, it's not recommended for use in the labs due to this feature or lack thereof.

Getting Started:

  • Open SOUND RECORDER By Clicking on START / PROGRAMS / ACCESSORIES / MULTIMEDIA / SOUND RECORDER
The program should now be open

  • Open the VOLUME CONTROL By Clicking on START / PROGRAMS / ACCESSORIES / MULTIMEDIA / VOLUME CONTROL, or click the YELLOW SPEAKER in the Bottom Right Hand Corner of the screen.

The program should now be open
Open the RECORDING CONTROL By Clicking OPTIONS / PROPERTIES / RECORDING / OK

  • SOUND RECORDER and RECORDING CONTROL are both open. Ensure that the SELECT Box for the Microphone has a Checkmark. Adjust the Microphone Recording level according to your voice and overall sound quality

    Press the RED RECORD BUTTON

  • Use the microphone to start recording.

  • The STOP BUTTON Works like a PAUSE KEY by allowing recording to resume at the point where it was stopped.

  • ****PRESS THE RECORD BUTTON EVERY 1 MINUTE (60 SECONDS) TO CONTINUE RECORDING****

  • To discard a recording and start over, click FILE / NEW and when prompted to Save Changes, choose NO
